Root Flare Exposure

One of our task today was exposing the root flares on a five Eastern White Pine trees. The trees have had mulch piled up around the base and covered the flare. In the processes of exposing we came across a Maple root that was girdling the neighboring Pine. We removed the root to help the Pine. The root flare is where the trunk and the roots meet and cause a swell in the trunk. This needs to be exposed to access oxygen to aid in tree growth.
